13 April 23

Today's truly unique tie celebrates FIFTEEN YEARS of tracking my neckwear! The QR code links to my tie blog, "Tied Up Today" at https://seeds-ties.blogspot.com, so it is both stylish and self-referential.

It was 13 April 2008 when my sons convinced me that I should create a blog to explain each day's choice. At that time I probably had about 50 ties, but that collection grew rapidly as my family and friends helped -- and so now my closet has about 400 ties on four rotating racks (80 ties each), several hangers for bow ties and other styles that can't be hung on those racks, and a box of Christmas ties that I use only in December and January. The blog features a list/index of all of my ties, showing the number of times each has been worn.

There are other events on 13 April worth noting, including the birthdays of Thomas Jefferson, Alfred Butts (the inventor of Scrabble®), chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov and cryptologist Herbert Yardley. Handel's "Messiah" premiered on this date in 1742.
