I knew of no special occasion for 26 June, so I chose my sculpted New York City taxicab tie which I had not worn for a long time. But I've learned this noteworthy fact in automotive history: it was on this date in 1956 that the U.S. Congress approved the Federal Highway Act, allocating more than $30 billion for the construction of some 41,000 miles of interstate highways.
