National Donut Day obviously creates an exception to my "no-tie-on-Fridays" general rule. National Donut Day started in 1938, sponsored by the Salvation Army as a fundraiser. It honored the "donut lassies" who provided amenities (writing supplies, cooked meals, donuts) to the American soldiers in France during World War I. Today
many stores offer free donuts/doughnuts!
