I am not a golfer, but I like to find holes in the calendar when I can wear this tie. World history includes three noteworthy items on this date about golf: (1) 50 years ago today, former President Dwight Eisenhower hit a hole in one, in Palm Springs, CA; (2) 47 years ago today, astronaut Alan Shepard hit some golf balls, on the Moon; and (3) 148 years ago today, pro golfer James Braid was born, in Earlsferry, Fife, Scotland. (Braid died in 1950 and was known as one of the "Great Triumvirate" in the sport.) I have no idea whether any of those three men felt as frustrated as the duffer on my tie.
