Repeating last year's discoveries for 20 June: On this date
in 1782, the Constitutional Congress accepted Charles Thomson's design
for the Great Seal of the new country, featuring a bald eagle and a
shield with thirteen stripes. In 1787, Oliver Ellsworth (of Connecticut)
proposed "the United States" as the official name for the new
government, and that was approved by the Congress. In baseball, in 1950,
Joe DiMaggio scored his 2000th career hit (and you can find many more
baseball occasions for this and every day of the year at "National Pastime -- Baseball History"). So it's appropriate to tie these themes together with this tie!
