National Frog Jumping Day is celebrated on 13 May every year. It honors Mark Twain's 1865 short story "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County," which was his first great success as a writer. Calaveras County, California, has held public frog-jumping events since 1893, culminating in this year's edition of the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee on 18-21 May. My tie was a birthday present from Nate David last August, and this is my second occasion to wear it!
