National Frog Jumping Day is celebrated on 13 May every year. It honors Mark Twain's 1865 short story "
The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County," which was his first great success as a writer. Calaveras County, California, has held public frog-jumping events since 1893, culminating in this year's edition of the
Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee on 18-21 May. My tie was a birthday present from Nate David last August, and this is my second occasion to wear it!
