12 September 16

Little (or nothing) is known about the actual birthdate for the explorer Henry Hudson, but some calendars have decided to show 12 September for the day, and anywhere from 1560-1575 for the year. His travels in the New World focused on trying to find a "Northwest Passage" to the Pacific Ocean. He mapped many waterways in New England and Canada. In 1611, after the crew of his ship The Discovery mutinied, Hudson and eight others were set adrift in a small open boat on Hudson Bay, and they were never seen again. On my tie, the map of New York City shows the east bank of the Hudson River at the far bottom left, with the numbered docks extending along the bank around to the back of the tie.
