Happy Fibonacci Day! The digits 1-1-2-3 (as in 11-23) are the first four members of the Fibonacci series, the mathematical sequence where each number (after the start) is the sum of the previous two. So the series continues 1 1 2 3 5 8 13 21 34 55 . . . The spiral patterns of snail shells, flower petals, and ocean waves all conform to the Fibonacci series, and you can learn even more from watching a 6-minute "TED Talk" at My Jerry Garcia tie for today is titled "Snail Garden." (I should have tried to tie it in some kind of spiral!)
