6 July 15

Tomorrow, 7 July, is celebrated annually as Chocolate Day! Many calendars note July 7, 1550 as the date when chocolate arrived in Europe. None of the official histories of chocolate attach any significance to that date, recording that Columbus took cacao beans back to Spain on his 1502 voyage -- but that it did not become popular until the middle of the sixteenth century. (The earliest records of chocolate date from around 1900 BCE, on the Mexican Pacific coast.) Tomorrow, or today, or whenever you please, get some chocolate and read about its history. Recent studies prove that it's a very healthy food!
