Happy Independence Day! John Adams expected the history of the United States to be counted from July 2, the day when the colonial representatives voted (unanimously!) to approve the resolution for independence from Britain. The "Declaration" is dated for July 4, when the document was ready for signing by John Hancock and others. (I am aware that my tie shows the Capitol, not Independence Hall! It's still all red/white/blue.)
