Happy Leif Erikson Day! Yes, there is a celebration designated for the Norse explorer who "discovered" America about 500 years earlier than Christopher Columbus, and so it is fitting that his "day" on the calendar precedes Columbus Day. The date actually honors the arrival in New York of a Norwegian immigration ship in 1825.
