Dutch graphic artist M. C. Escher was born on this date in 1898. His art featured space-filling tessellations (as in the flying fish design on my tie), "impossible" cyclic figures (as in "Drawing Hands," "Waterfall," "Ascending and Descending," and many drawings based on Möbius loops), and studies of foreground/background and inside/outside perspectives.
