John Newton (July 24, 1725 – December 21, 1807) is most famous as the author of "Amazing Grace." Those words appear on this tie celebrating sacred music. Also born today in 1803 was Adolphe Charles Adam, composer of "O Holy Night." Several Web pages report that this song is thought to have been the first music broadcast over radio (Dec. 24, 1906).
