Greetings on "World Hello Day"! Be sure to say "Hello!" to everyone around you today. Alexander Graham Bell originally thought that "Ahoy!" would be the best way to answer a telephone, but Thomas Edison and others popularized "Hello" instead. Wikipedia says that "by 1889, central telephone exchange operators were known as 'hello-girls' due to the association between the greeting and the telephone."
