19 October 11

Happy Tomato Day! After the French Revolution, the founders of the French Republic designed a new calendar that avoided all the traditional attachments to mythology and saints' days. What makes this calendar so interesting to me is that each day was designated to honor a particular crop, agricultural tool or farm animal. What we call October 19 was labeled Tomate, celebrating the tomato. Bob (from Veggie Tales®) is especially happy to be on my tie today!
