19 March 09

This marks the sixth anniversary of the beginning of the (second) Iraq war. Six years ago I was part of two protest demonstrations, one holding signs in downtown Lexington (getting jeers and cheers from school-busloads of "Sweet Sixteen" basketball fans arriving at Rupp Arena), and another holding candles outside the ammunition transport gate at the Bluegrass Army Depot (getting shouts of obscenities and honks of support from passing cars). After the war started I immediately made my office door at EKU into a peace information site, posting frequent updates on the complete and utter failure of the U. S.-led coalition forces to substantiate any of the reasons offered for the attacks. My "peace door" was attacked (that is, vandalized) several times, but several of my colleagues in Information Technology told me that they really appreciated how I was expressing our collective regrets and sorrow.
