My son Jonathan finds my floral ties uninteresting, but at least today there's a good reason to wear one. The first of May marks the formal start date of plant taxonomy, adopted by the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature, based on the publication of Species Plantarum by Linnaeus in 1753.
